Let's begin with LAST year. I did not think allowing the kids to enter in the art show was a big deal. HOWEVER, according to Jason it was. Imagine that? This year, Jason entered the kids in a PTO art show about Beauty is.... The kids were very much excited about the whole thing. And to our surprise....both the boys won!!! Yeah! Parker...a 1st place winner...said the beauty is a baby. He decided to draw our little friend Ty (Alexis' son whom they LOVE!) . We have this picture of Ty laying on his belly in golf shorts and t-shirt with a huge smile on his face. Apparently the judge thought it was the best because he won first place. Aiden, the 2nd place winner, said beauty is penguins. Without a doubt we knew he would pick that. Aiden decided to paint a penguin. It turned out a little goth, but the judge thought it was great. He earned 2nd place in the same category as Parker. Primary Visual Arts!
The judge was Chris Yambar the illustrator of the Simpson's comic. He was awesome. It was more awesome for Jason to meet him than the boys, since he has been watching the Simpson's for years and years. He was a funny guy and really had a good time talking and drawing for the kids who entered and won.
Parker's picture will go on to a district competion and if he wins that it will go on to a state competion. We are keeping our fingers crossed for him to go all the way...National!
You can imagine how Aiden reacted...being the artist of the family! Ticked he came in second place and Parker getting first. Both were extrememly excited in the end. The school put on an ice cream social to hand out awards and Jason and I both got to be there to see the smiles on their faces. It was a glorious day!
